In 1996, RT-Mart was founded in Taiwan by the Ruentex Group. In 1997, RT-Mart opened its first store in mainland China in Shanghai's Zhabei district. Since then, it has rapidly expanded across mainland China, with a continuously increasing number of stores. In 2011, RT-Mart merged with Auchan China's business, listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, and established Gao Xin Retail. In 2017, Alibaba Group invested approximately HK$22.4 billion (approximately US$2.88 billion), directly and indirectly holding 36.16% of Gao Xin Retail's shares.
 Business Model
Wide Range of Products: Covering numerous categories including food, fresh produce, home appliances, home furnishings, clothing, and daily necessities, meeting consumers' one-stop shopping needs. For example, the fresh produce section offers fresh vegetables, fruits, meat, and seafood, while the food section offers various domestic and international snacks, beverages, grains, oils, and rice.
Low-Price Strategy: By means of large-scale procurement and optimized supply chain management to reduce costs, attracting consumers with competitive prices. Various promotional activities are frequently launched, such as special offers, discounts, and member-exclusive prices.
Membership System: Providing members with benefits such as points, exclusive discounts, and member-priced goods to enhance consumer stickiness and loyalty. Members can accumulate points through consumption, which can be redeemed for goods or cash discounts.
 Store Layout and Services
Store Layout: RT-Mart stores are typically large in size, using open shelving to display goods with wide aisles for convenient shopping. Clear area markings and directional signage are also provided to help customers quickly locate the items they need.
Supporting Services: In addition to selling goods, a variety of supporting services are also provided, such as free parking, dining areas, and children's play areas. Some stores also have self-checkout counters to improve checkout efficiency.
 Digital Transformation
After cooperating with Alibaba, RT-Mart has accelerated its digital transformation. Online platforms such as Taoxian Da have been introduced to enable online ordering and home delivery services, covering residents within a certain range. At the same time, big data is used to analyze consumer shopping habits and preferences to optimize product display and inventory management.
